What a week! I feel like the days are flying by, and I don't have time to get done the things I need to do! Here's a quick version of my Weekend Roundup and then I'm off to sleep!! Hopefully, with kids who sleep all night tonight.
Food This week I kept going with my Instant Pot, and made a few great recipes: Orange Chicken Turmeric Quinoa 2c quinoa, rinsed clear 3c water 2t turmeric 1t garlic powder 1t onion powder 1.5t salt 1/2t paprika 2T olive oil Add all ingredients to the Instant Pot, lock the lid and turn on high for 1 minute. Do a 10 minute natural pressure release, and done! Delicious. I ate this all week cold topped with salted raw zucchini noodles, fresh diced tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, chives and a drizzle of white balsamic. Then when I wanted something hot, I sauteed up some fresh swiss chard with red onion and broccoli bits and topped the quinoa with it, as well as a fried egg. Fitness I'm trying to get the most out of my Amazon Prime membership, so this week I tried out some free yoga videos: 1. Yoga For Toning & Weight Loss by Kanta Barrios (29 minutes) 2. Yoga Therapy for Back Pain & Stress Relief by Kanta Barrios (59 minutes) #1 was short, but effective. I felt great after doing it, it was simple to follow and on the days when I didn't have much time it did the trick. Beginners can probably do this one. It has a few standing poses and a good amount of twisting. #2 was one I tried thinking my husband could do it to strengthen his ever present back pain. It was longer than the first, and definitely more advanced so I wouldn't say it's good for beginners or anyone who has pain. She gives good instruction, but it's more directed at people who have done yoga before and have some knowledge about how to move into and hold poses. If you try this one out you'll need some props handy: a strap, block, blanket, chair, and if you do the extras at the end, a bolster. Both have nice, relaxing nature settings and music, trickling waterfalls, flower scenes. Overall they are great, and I'll definitely keep them on my list to do again. |
Turmeric Green Tea
So, I eat and drink some funky stuff, but this was really terrible. I couldn't get it down without adding some raw honey to sweeten it up a bit because it's just hot turmeric water. I used my favorite Emperor's Mist green tea from Teavana but it just didn't cut it. I'm not sure I'll make this again, since I'd much rather do the lemon honey turmeric I'm used to eating by the spoonful. EDIT: I hear Teavana has shut down their ecommerce site, so if you're a green tea drinker check out The Republic of Tea.
Fun
We harvested more beautiful veggies from our Tower Garden, like the swiss chard I cooked up above. I managed to finish a good portion of a suitcase prop I'm making for the second grade school play, plus I took the kids to the zoo for some splash park fun. I love watching my boys interact with their little sister, and they all had a great time brushing goats in the petting zoo. We ended the week with a fun beach day and dinner out.
There you have it for this week. I hope y'all have a great week this week! Stay healthy!
